Background of the College

Introduction
Since 1999 E.C. (2006 G.C), following the implementation of the Outcome-Based TVET Strategy (BLTO), the establishment of technical and vocational training institutions has become widely recognized across the Oromiyaa Region. Accordingly, Dodola Polytechnic College was established in 2001 E.C. (2008 G.C.) through strong community participation and the support of the Dodola Town Administration after the BLTO strategy was restructured into a new format.
The College commenced its training programs based on local labor market demand by offering four (4) occupational fields, namely:
– Building Electrical Installation (BEI),
– Furniture Making (FM),
– Building Metal Work (BMW), and
– General Metal Fabrication and Assembling (GMF&A).
Although training had been delivered in alignment with the TVET strategy and supported by structured planning to ensure quality and competency-based education, various challenges hindered the achievement of the intended outcomes. Currently, however, the College has shown significant improvement by addressing critical shortages in human resources, and its operational activities are steadily improving.
Dodola TVET College serves as a central institution for four districts: Dodola, Adabba, Kokossa, and Nensebo. It was established in 2001 E.C. (2008 G.C.) in response to strong public demand. The College is located approximately 1.5 kilometers south of Dodola Town.
At the time of its establishment, the College began operations with 13 instructors and 13 administrative staff members, training 124 trainees across four occupational fields. At present, the College has expanded to 45 instructors and 24 administrative staff members and is preparing to admit both new and continuing trainees in 13 occupational fields under the 2018 E.C. (2026 G.C.) annual plan. Accordingly, the Human Resource Management Department of Dodola Polytechnic College has deployed these employees to their respective positions and responsibilities.
